Park Information

Peacefully situated on the Conestoga River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the property known as Poole Forge is a beautiful historic site worthy of preservation. An elegant mansion, charming covered bridge, and numerous original outbuildings all remain on the property. Built in the mid 1700s, the Iron MasterŐs Mansion is a lovely reminder of the glory days of the iron forge plantations. Purchased by Caernarvon Township in 2005 to provide a park for the community and to preserve this very special historic site, Poole Forge is a Lancaster County treasure.

The restoration and preservation of the property is now under the auspices of a nonprofit organization, Historic Poole Forge, Inc. Designed to educate the public and showcase the lovely original buildings, this unique park will also provide a variety of facilities for community use. Historic Poole Forge is an entirely volunteer organization. The hours and energy spent by volunteers has been astounding. In this first year much has already been accomplished. An exciting playground has been completed and is being enjoyed daily by area children. The 1859 covered bridge is once again open to carriage and auto traffic. Picnics and summer activities have made the park a favorite "new place" to visit. Behind the scenes, historical research and planning for the future is ongoing.

Please consider becoming a part of these exciting happenings. We are actively looking for donations, members, and volunteers, but most of all we hope you visit our "diamond in the rough".
